When Nicholas was still very little, we would play with some big candles I keep in a basket in our bedroom. We would talk about short and tall, thin and wide, smooth and textured. We would smell the different fragrances. We would also practice lining them up in a row or seeing if we could stack some on top of each other.
Nicholas still loves to pull out the candles to look at and smell. He always lines them up on the floor just like we did when he was a baby. However, now he has gotten much more creative in the way that he plays with them. He has created a game called Candle Bowling. The rules change from time to time but the basic concept is about the same. The goal is to knock over the candles. Sometimes he will roll one candle at the bunch in a row and try to knock them down in a typical bowling fashion. However, today he changed it up a little and here are the new rules. He lines up the candles then takes a running jump over them. As he is jumping, he tries to knock down as many candles as he can. When he knocks one over, he shouts, "I scored!" then makes everyone take a turn playing.
