We had a good time at the Western Day celebration in Lewisville. We took a shuttle over to the event and Nicholas was very excited to see that the bus they were using for the shuttle was a big, yellow school bus. For a long time now, he has been asking to ride a school bus. Now he got his chance. During our trip, he asked, "Why doesn't the school bus have any seat belts? I'll have to ask the driver about that." I was so proud of him for noticing that on his own because that is one of my big pet peeves. Why should it be a law for individuals in cars to wear seat belts but our children, our most precious cargo, are not even given the option of wearing a seat belt in school buses because there just aren't any there?
The festival was fun. We listened to music, watched a staged gunfight, saw lots of vendors booths and animal rescue booths (we saw some of the biggest dogs ever!). We got to see longhorns up close...
Nicholas was able to hand feed hay to a horse...
Nicholas asked, "Why are they going in there? I want to go in there! I want to go in there!" We had to explain what a Port-A-Potty was and that we try to avoid going in there, if at all possible. We are always reminded of how everyday things can seem new and exciting to a 3 year old...
We looked at the fountains at City Hall and Nicholas tried to rescue a cricket but it was too late. In our "good guy, bad guy" playing at home, Nicholas uses the word "return" meaning that once you are dead you can "return" to life and keep playing. We had to explain that how this little cricket couldn't return. He really tried to understand but I think the concept is really a bit larger than he can really grasp at this age. He was still talking to the cricket and petting it.
